UC Davis taps donors for student support
The current Crowdfund UC Davis project offers donors the opportunity to support undergraduate students. The Undergraduate Research Center and experiential learning programs seek financial support from alumni, faculty and the community to enhance student learning experiences, near and far.
Crowdfund UC Davis raises money to support students, faculty, staff and researchers. Since its inception in February 2020, Crowdfund raised over $2 million in gifts from 11,752 donors. Four Undergraduate Education programs partnered with them this February and seek support for programs that enhance student learning experiences.
The Experiential Learning Transportation fund supports students by offsetting travel costs for internships and field trips. Programs seeking support include the Washington Program, Quarter at Aggie Square and First-Year Seminars. “The value of immersive experiential learning is unmatched in our growing digital age,” said Angela Taylor, director of experiential learning programs. “Hands-on learning and experiencing new concepts or activities on-site with others, brings forth knowledge not fully realized through media and in classroom environments.”
The Undergraduate Research Center offers several programs for undergraduates to participate in research, across all fields of study. This Crowdfund campaign seeks to engage donors interested in supporting such research opportunities. The center’s largest event is the annual Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creative Activities Conference. It brings together more than 800 students, sharing projects, oral presentations and digital and print media with the UC Davis community.
“Conducting research as an undergraduate helps students develop analytical and critical thinking skills,” said Raynell Hamilton-Starks, director of the Undergraduate Research Center. “By exploring real-world problems, asking meaningful questions and working with mentors to find answers or create innovative solutions, students gain valuable experiences that significantly impact their postgraduate goals."
The Undergraduate Research Center, Washington Program, Quarter at Aggie Square and First-Year Seminars are all part of UC Davis Undergraduate Education. These Crowdfund campaigns run through Feb. 28.
