Aggie Scholars Research Initiative
Expanding research opportunities in the social sciences, arts and humanities
The Aggie Scholars Research Initiative (ASRI) expands access to research opportunities for UC Davis undergraduates in the social sciences, arts and humanities. The program offers mentorship, workshops and collaborative learning experiences to help students explore research pathways and develop meaningful projects.
ASRI supports inclusive research participation by helping students with limited access to traditional pathways engage in meaningful scholarship.
Program overview
ASRI includes two tiers. Each offers mentorship and structured support tailored to students’ experience level and research goals.
Tier 1: Independent research experience (winter–spring)
- For students who have a faculty mentor and research topic or are actively seeking one at the time of application
- Includes independent research supported by workshops and check-ins
- Students complete a research proposal and a final project
Tier 2: Cohort-based workshop series (spring only)
- For students still exploring potential topics or mentors
- Participants work in teams on research projects focused on themes such as public engagement, sustainability and more
- Includes workshops and weekly group support to build research skills and complete team deliverables
What you’ll gain
Through ASRI, students will:
- Build core research skills, including design, analysis, academic writing and public presentation
- Complete substantial research deliverables
- Tier 1: Independent research project
- Tier 2: Team paper and group presentation
- Gain mentorship and experience relevant to graduate school or future careers
- Receive up to $1,000 after completing all program requirements
