Aggie Scholars Research Initiative

The Aggie Scholars Research Initiative (ASRI) is a 10-week summer research program designed to expand access to undergraduate research for students, especially those in the social sciences and humanities. The program offers mentorship, workshops and collaborative learning experiences to help students explore research pathways and develop meaningful projects.

Program overview

Students are expected to participate in weekly sessions and actively engage in research-related activities. Participants receive a $1,000 summer stipend upon successful completion of program requirements.

Program Dates: ASRI is a 10-week, in-person, summer program (June 15 – August 21, 2026).

ASRI includes two tiers. Each offers mentorship and structured support tailored to students’ experience level and research goals.

Tier 1: Students already engaged in faculty-mentored research

  • For students who have a faculty mentor and research topic at the time of application
  • Includes independent research supported by workshops and check-ins
  • Students complete and present a final project

Tier 2: Students exploring research and seeking faculty mentorship

  • For students still exploring potential topics or mentors
  • Includes workshops and weekly group support to build research skills
  • Students complete and present a final project

Core Program Components:

  • Guided Research Engagement: Students participate in structured or exploratory research experiences, including literature mapping, early-stage project development, or faculty-supported work.
  • Weekly Seminars & Workshops: Grounded in the Where Research Begins framework, topics include research pathways, literature review strategies, abstract writing, and research communication.
  • Journal Club: Students build analytical skills through guided reading and discussion of scholarly work.
  • Faculty & Staff Mentorship: Regular check-ins support student progress, research design, and academic skill development.
  • Library & Writing Support: Integrated sessions strengthen information literacy, research methods, and academic writing.
