Expanding Research Opportunities for Social Sciences, Arts, and Humanities (SS&AH) Students
The Aggie Scholars Research Initiative (ASRI) is a program dedicated to expanding access to research opportunities for UC Davis undergraduate students in Social Sciences, Arts, and Humanities. ASRI provides mentorship, skill-building workshops, and collaborative learning experiences to support students as they explore research pathways and develop impactful projects.
This program is designed to foster equitable participation in research, with a focus on empowering underrepresented students in SS&AH disciplines.
Program Overview
ASRI features two tiers, both designed to provide mentorship and structured research opportunities:
Tier 1: Winter-Spring Independent Research Program
- For students who have identified a faculty mentor and research topic.
- Participants engage in independent research supported by workshops and bi-weekly check-ins.
- Deliverables include a finalized research proposal and a completed research project.
Tier 2: Spring Cohort-Based Workshop
- For students exploring research pathways without a defined topic or mentor.
- Participants work collaboratively on team-based projects centered on themes like public engagement, sustainability, and more.
- Includes workshops and bi-weekly support to develop skills and complete team research deliverables.
What You’ll Gain
By participating in ASRI, students will:
- Build essential skills in research design, analysis, academic writing, and public presentation.
- Complete meaningful research deliverables:
- Tier 1: Independent research project.
- Tier 2: Collaborative research papers and presentations.
- Prepare for graduate school or professional opportunities through hands-on experience and mentorship.
- Receive compensation of up to $1,000 upon successful completion of program requirements.
